Organization structure

Organization structure is where you choose how your company is organized. Switch on the unit types your company uses — hubs, regions, departments, teams, branches and more — and each one gets its own page in Company settings. Every unit works like a department: it has its own workspace, its heads and its people. Company owners and admins set the organization structure.

Unit types

TypeUse it for
HubsA group of spokes: departments, regions, teams or spokes of its own.
RegionsGeography: APAC, EMEA, North India.
DepartmentsA function: IT, HR, Finance.
DivisionsA business unit with its own P&L.
TeamsA standing group of people, within or across departments.
BranchesAn office or location with its own people.
StoresRetail and franchise outlets.
SitesPlants, warehouses, construction sites.
CommitteesCross-functional group: safety, hiring, ethics.

Every company starts with Departments switched on.

How to switch a unit type on

  1. Open Company settings › Organization structure (under People).
  2. Turn on the switch on the card of each type your company uses, for example Regions or Teams.

The type now appears as its own item, indented under Organization structure in the menu — for example Hubs, Regions and Departments. Open it to create units of that type, add their heads and people, and open their workspaces, the same way as Departments.

On the Overview, the switched-on types also appear as cards under Organization units, each with how many units it has.

How to set the menu order

Drag a card by its handle to set the order the types appear in the menu. You can also focus the handle and use the arrow keys. Menu order saved confirms the change.

How to switch a unit type off

Turn off the switch on its card. A type that still has units stays on until you move its units to another type or delete them — the card shows In use. Change their type or delete them to turn this off. At least one type always stays on.

Hubs and spokes

A hub groups other units, called its spokes. When Hubs is on, each hub card has two buttons:

  • Attach spoke — link existing units, such as departments, regions or teams, to the hub.
  • Create spoke — make a new unit inside the hub.

A hub has its own workspace and announcements. Its people are the heads and members of its spokes, added to the hub's workspace for you.

A region can also gather units: select Attach on a region's card.
